In the largest study of its kind, researchers from the University of Alabama at Birmingham report that Americans suffer an alarming number of eye injuries: nearly 2 million a year. Men have twice the injury rate of women, and white males in their 20s have the highest rate of all. Among the riskiest activities: playing basketball and other sports, operating welding or construction tools and using household cleansers. --By Sora Song
