SUED. MICHAEL JACKSON, 37; for allegedly violating a promise not to talk about a settlement concerning sensational 1993 allegations of child molestation; in Santa Barbara, California. The father of the boy involved says Jackson violated the deal when he appeared in a 1995 PrimeTime Live interview. Jackson says the suit is "meritless."
PLEADED GUILTY. SAVION GLOVER, 22, star of the Tony Award-winning Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk; to a disorderly-conduct charge stemming from an arrest for impaired driving and marijuana possession; in New York City.
SENTENCED. WILLIAM KREUTZER, 27, Army sergeant convicted of murdering an officer and wounding 18 other soldiers in a sniper attack last October; to death; at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. The shootings occurred as fellow members of the 82nd Airborne Division stood in formation.
ASYLUM GRANTED. To FAUZIYA KASINGA, 19, the woman who fled Togo to avoid a genital-mutilation rite; in Washington. The Immigration Appeals Board ruled that "this level of harm can constitute persecution."
DIED. ULYSSES DOVE, 49, choreographer for some of modern dance's top companies in the U.S. and Europe; of aids; in New York City. His physically demanding works were often performed by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
DIED. FRANKLIN ISRAEL, 50, West Coast architect whose bold, colorful designs sought to embody the vibrancy of Hollywood; from AIDS complications; in Los Angeles.
DIED. LONNE ELDER, 64, playwright and screenwriter, best known for his Harlem family play Ceremonies in Dark Old Men; after a chronic illness; in Woodland Hills, California. His film credits include Sounder and Bustin' Loose.
DIED. DAVID HUBBARD, 68, influential Fuller Theological Seminary chief; of a heart attack; in Santa Barbara, California.
DIED. JO VAN FLEET, 81, actress noted for portrayals of proud, stoical mothers; in New York City. Her many films include Cool Hand Luke and East of Eden, for which she won a supporting-actress Oscar. On Broadway she appeared in The Trip to Bountiful and Look Homeward Angel.
DIED. BRIGITTE HELM, 88, the robot-vamp actress in Fritz Lang's 1926 cult classic Metropolis; in Ascona, Switzerland.
