People
By Sara C. Medina
"There had been so many lies, so many misconceptions," says Tina Turner, explaining why she wrote I, Tina, published this week by William Morrow. The title describes the new attitude she developed during her mid-1970s breakup with Ike Turner, who, she says, beat and abused her. "Instead of using 'we,' meaning Ike and myself, everything from that point on was 'I' -- what I think, what I want," reflects Turner, 47. Her wants are certainly being met. Last week she became the 1,841st celebrity to get her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And then there is a new album and video called Breaking Every Rule, out this week. Once again, the title reflects her viewpoint. "Everything I've done in my life has been somebody's idea of breaking the rules," Turner says. "People say that I'm not supposed to be this successful in this business at my age." But she adds, "Honey, I've just started. Are you ready for me?"
