George Brown, 70, British politician who served as deputy leader of the Labor Party, Minister for Economic Affairs and Foreign Secretary in the 1960s, but whose silver-tongued persuasiveness as a parliamentarian and popularity with ordinary people were tarnished by drink and an intolerance of social and diplomatic niceties; after surgery for severe internal bleeding; in Truro, England.
