Anybody Listening?
A group of radiomen fearfully hired Alfred Politz Research, Inc. to find out if anyone was still listening to radio in the nation's TV areas. Last week they were crowing about the results:
P: In TV areas, during an average winter day, two out of three adults said they had listened to radio; 94.5% reported they owned one or more radios in working order.
P: Most people (57%) listen to radio before and during breakfast, while they are busy dressing, bathing, eating, etc.
P: A radio set is the most widely owned U.S. appliance: 1% ahead of refrigerators, 9% ahead of bathtubs, 16% ahead of telephones, and 22% ahead of TV sets.
P: In the past 4 1/2 years, during the period of TV's prodigious growth, 43% of the population bought new radios.
P: Asked what they would do if they heard a rumor that war had broken out, 54% of those interviewed answered:"Turn on the radio."
