Toughest Yet
Two months ago the National Production Authority stopped all "frivolous" construction (i.e., cocktail lounges, roller-skating rinks, etc.), to save critical materials. This week NPA decided to cut another piece off the civilian economy. In its toughest order yet, NPA prohibited all new commercial building (hotels, office buildings, stores, etc.) until Feb. 15. Housing, wholesale food and fuel facilities were not included in the ban. After that date, NPA's regional offices will have to pass on every new project costing more than $5,000 in a twelve-month period. Unless the building is needed for defense or public welfare, NPA will not approve it.
