Antifreeze
One cold night last week an unsuspecting U.S. correspondent in Berlin wrapped the hood of his automobile with two blankets to keep the radiator from freezing. Next morning, the blankets were gone. The correspondent then got two gallons of antifreeze, poured it into the radiator. Half an hour later he caught two Germans siphoning out the antifreeze. They explained :
"It's getting cold, we have no coal or wood heat at home, and we want to make schnapps out of the antifreeze."
Said the correspondent: "If it's schnapps you want, come inside. That antifreeze will blind you." He gave each a glass of cognac. The Germans thanked him, departed. Half an hour later they returned with the two blankets which had been stolen the night before.
