On the heels of the Liberal Party's defeat in the Pontiac by-election (TIME Sept. 30) the Gallup poll reported: if a federal election were held now the Liberals would get 41% of the votes cast.
That was exactly what they got in the federal election last year, but it was down from the Party's estimated high of 45% in January. The Tories, said pollsters, would get 27% of the vote, the CCF 17%, other parties, 15%.
