Uncivil Incident
Colonel Popov, energetic head of Russia's Military Mission in Greece, was almost a casualty of the Athens battle. During a lull in the fighting he was riding in his big automobile, flying the hammer-&-sickle flag, down a main thoroughfare. Police, to whom the hammer & sickle means EAM, fired twice at the car.
Out jumped Colonel Popov, his face crimson with rage. He caught one policeman by the throat, shook him till his teeth chattered. The others ran. Then Colonel Popov proceeded to lodge a formal protest with the Greek Government.
