August Records

Villa-Lobos: Album of Piano Music (Artur Rubinstein; Victor; 4 sides). Sparkling Brazilian impressionism by the country's foremost composer. Performance and recording: excellent.

Mozart: Symphony No. 34 In C Major, K. 338 (London Philharmonic, Sir Thomas Beecham conducting; Columbia; 6 sides). A top-notch Beecham interpretation, somewhat more ingratiating, some what less well recorded than Koussevitzky's brilliant Boston Symphony version.

Wagner: Album of Five Orchestral Excerpts (Pittsburgh Symphony, Fritz Reiner conducting; Columbia; 8 sides). Generally well-tooled treatments of the Meistersinger Prelude, the Forest Murmurs, the Walkiirenritt and the Preludes to the first and third acts of Lohengrin. Recording: good.

Schubert: Sonata No. 9, Op. 120 (Robert Casadesus, pianist; Columbia; 3 sides). Delightfully lyric Schubert, affectionately played. Recording: excellent.
