Education Needed
In Manhattan last week Co-operative Commonwealth Federation Leader M. J. Coldwell said he would like to see the Dominion join the Pan American Union. That made it all but unanimous with Canada's top political leaders.
Canada's Ambassador to the U.S., Leighton McCarthy, has already said that Canadians would never ask to be admitted, but broadly hinted that an invitation from Latin American members would be welcome.
But in spite of the pronouncements of Socialist Leader Coldwell and his Rightist opposite numbers, the question of membership in the Pan American Union was still largely academic to most Canadians. A Gallup poll last week showed that of the few who had heard of the Pan American Union, 84% favored the Dominion joining it. Seventy-two per cent had never heard of it.
