Uncle Tim's Last Broadcast
Kiddies of Caracas used to listen on the radio with bated breath to "Tio Timoteo" (Uncle Tim), wondering how he knew that little Juan Bimba's birthday present was under the sofa and that Babita was not eating enough cereal. He knew, of course, because fond parents wrote in and asked him to say so.
Uncle Tim got a letter from a village in the interior, asking that Uncle Tim admonish little Jose Garcia for always picking his nose, putting the pickies on the furniture and upsetting his mamacita and papacito. "Jose," wheedled Uncle Tim on the radio, "that is a terrible habit. People won't like you if you keep it up."
Next day little Jose ran into the Caracas studio with ideas of his own as to noses, especially the nose of Tio Timoteo. Little Jose, it turned out, was 6 ft. 2 in. of grown-up brawn; some friend had wanted to play a little joke. Jose's idea: to apply the fist of Jose to the nose of Timoteo so hard that Timoteo would no longer give advice to Juan Bimba and Babita.
Last week Tio Timoteo was off the air.
