Return of Long

Climbing through the spectrum of Red Book, Blue Book, Green Book to editorship of Hearst's Cosmopolitan, Ray Long became fat, fanciful and the most successful fiction merchant in the U. S. After 20 years in the business he quit in 1931, formed a book publishing firm with Richard R. Smith. A year later the firm cracked up, and Publisher Long with it. "A couple of jumps ahead of a nervous breakdown," he walked out of his office, turned up in Tahiti, remained a year. Returning to the U. S. he wrote and edited scenarios in Hollywood. Last week Ray Long, 56, trim and businesslike, was back in the journalistic swim as editor of Macfadden's Photoplay. On newsstands throughout the land was his first Photoplay, showing many a sign of his able pencil.
