William Aver ell Harriman, 40. banker (Brown Bros., Harriman & Co.), poloist, was elected chairman of Illinois Central Railroad's executive committee. This marks the first entrance of Mr. Harriman into railroad management although he was recently made a director of Union Pacific, In the affairs of both Union Pacific and Illinois Central Mr. Harriman's father, the late Edward Henry Harriman, was dominant. Union Pacific has a 25% interest in Illinois Central.
Matthew Chauncey Brush, head of American International Corp., resigned as chairman and a director of Barnsdall Corp, Eugene William Stetson, vice president of Guaranty Trust Co. also resigned his directorship. Robert Law, largest Barnsdall stockholder, good friend of the late Theodore Newton Barnsdall, was made chairman of the board. Mr. Law's sons are named Robert Barnsdall and Theodore Newton.
George Monroe Moffett was made president of Corn Products Refining Co,, succeeding the late Edward Thomas Bedford (TIME, June 1). George Monroe Moffett was previously Corn Products' vice president. He is a director of Chase National Bank and many industrial companies.
George Fisher Baker Jr. was elected a trustee of Consolidated Gas Co, of New York, succeeding his father.
