Ryan Out

Six months ago last week John Barry Ryan Jr., strapping young grandson of the late Financier Thomas Fortune Ryan, became a newspaper publisher (TIME, July 14). He bought the stagnant New Jersey Freie Zeitung, created also the Newark Free Press, believed he could make the latter a big enough success to lift the former. Last week the Free Press was no more. It, and the Freie Zeitung (which continued publication) were in receivers' hands, admittedly insolvent.
