100% Prohibition

Tucked away behind the snow-capped peaks of Asiatic Turkey, the Grand National Assembly at Angora passed a bill ruthlessly expelling from the Government services any official who has or takes a non-Turkish wife.

Previously this prohibition--inspired by Turkey's 100% nationalist dictator, President Mustafa Kemal Pasha--had applied only to officers of the Army and Navy and to Turkish diplomats.

Many a U. S. officer and diplomat has a foreign wife, and many another is himself of recent alien extraction (TIME, Feb. 11).
