One of every eight persons owns securities.

In the pentad of 1923-27, U. S. investors paid $34,806,783,000 for 36,965 different issues of bonds and stocks. Of these 34,995 issues were bonds sold for $28,-931,587,000.

The U. S. national wealth is $320,000,000,000, population is 117,000,000.

These statistics, presented last week by President Bayard Foster-Pope of Stone & Webster & Blodgett, amazed the hardiest of investment observers.
