60c Woman

"I am asked to put a money value on the worth of this wife to her husband. I award two shilling and sixpence [60c]." So said last week the Right Honorable Sir Gordon Hewart, Baron Hewart, Privy Councillor, member in good standing of the Beefsteak Club, and Lord Chief Justice of England. He was clearing up an undefended suit for divorce brought by the husband who asked -L-200 ($970) damages from a man with whom the wife had committed adultery.
