To the Left

Elections effecting one-third of the French Senate passed off quietly last week, resulting in a slight shift to the left. For the first time in history a Communist Senator was elected, Emile Bachelet. The loss of his seat by onetime President Millerand (ultraConservative) was the only sensation.
