Prompt Use

Last week conductors and railway trainmen demanding a 20% increase in wages were refused flatly by the eastern group of railroads. It was agreed by both parties, however, to take their dispute to the new Board of Mediation as soon as President Coolidge appoints it. Thus will the strike-preventing machinery of the railway-labor bill recently passed (TIME, May 24) be promptly put to use and test.
