In Chile

Last week a referendum was held in Chile. By "a tremendous majority" the people adopted a new Constitution without alterations. The Constitution was prepared by President Alessandri and a special committee. Senor Alessandri was ousted a year ago by a military revolution (TIME, Sept. 22) but recalled by a second overturn (TIME, Feb. 9). He is to call an election soon so that a new President can be elected to take office Dec. 23.
