The Legislative Week

The Senate:

P: Passed an omnibus bill carrying pensions for some 200 veterans and widows.

P: Passed but failed to approve after conference a deficiency bill carrying $186,000,000, of which $131,000,000 was to pay the first year's cost of the soldier bonus.

P: Adopted a resolution directing that an appeal be brought in the case of Mai Daugherty, brother of the former Attorney General, who was acquitted on a charge of contempt for refusing to bring various records before the Daugherty investigating committee.

P: Approved a conference report on a bill to increase the salaries of Post Office employes and provide for the publication of campaign contributions (TIME, June 9). The bill was vetoed by the President.

P: Passed the District of Columbia Appropriation Bill, carrying a contribution of $9,000,000 from the Federal Treasury.

P: Approved finally the Independent Offices Appropriation Bill, carrying $399,000,000.

P: Defeated a motion to bring from committee a bill appropriating $10,000,000 for the relief of German women and children.

P: Passed a bill appropriating $2,700,000 for establishing a national reforestration policy.

P: Passed a resolution for a committee to sit during the Summer and Fall to investigate campaign expenditures and contributions for and against Presidential and Senatorial candidates.

P: Passed a bill to admit some 13,000 immigrants who have arrived in excess of the quota.

P: Passed many minor bills.

P: Adjourned sine die.

The House:

P: Defeated the McNary-Haugen Farm Relief Bill by vote of 224 to 154.

P: Passed a Senate bill carrying $6,850,000 for completing the hospital construction program of the Veterans' Bureau.

P: Passed the Deficiency Appropriation Bill.

P: Finally approved the Independent Offices and District of Columbia Appropriation Bills.

P: Passed a bill establishing a separate bureau of prohibition enforcement in the Treasury Department.

P: Passed a bill appropriating $165,000,000 for a two-year road-building program.

P: Passed a bill to permit certain immigrants now in this country in excess of quota to remain here.

P: Passed the omnibus pension bill for veterans.

P: Passed a resolution authorizing the Interstate Commerce Commission to undertake a thorough survey of railroad freight rate schedules with a view to lowering rates on agricultural products.

P: Passed many minor bills.

P: Adjourned sine die.
