The Senate:

P:Rejected the nomination of Walter L. Cohen, a Negro, as Comptroller of Customs for New Orleans (see Page 5).

P:Confirmed the nomination of Henry P. Fletcher, Ambassador to Belgium, to be Ambassador to Italy. P: Adopted a House resolution appropriating $100,000 for expenses of special counsel in investigating oil scandals.

P:Passed a bill granting the mail

franking privilege to Edith Boiling

Wilson.

P:Took up consideration of the Interior Department appropriation bill, previously passed by the House.

P:Heard Senator F. B. Willis, of Ohio, read Washington's Farewell Address.

The House:

P:Debated and took several preliminary votes on the tax reduction bill (see Page 5).

P:Heard Representative Moore, of Virginia, read Washington's Farewell Address.
