Barons

A few weeks ago The Nation (Manhattan Liberal weekly) declared that Herr Hugo Stinnes owned "from 40% to 90% of the German press." Last week a denial came from Germany:

"As manager of the newspaper owned by Herr Stinnes, I am in a position to assure you that he owns but the Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (published in Berlin and Frankfurt-am-Main), the Industrie und Handdszeitung and the Frankfurter Nachrichten.

"Herr Stinnes neither owns nor controls any other daily newspaper.

" Humann " Office of Hugo Stinnes

" Berlin."

A few months ago it could have been said that there were three great newspaper barons in the world--Stinnes, Northcliffe, Hearst. Of Stinnes this is denied. Northcliffe is dead. Only Hearst remains.
